Redefining Christmas: Lessons in Mindset and Reality Creation
Introduction: The Unexpected Lesson of Christmas
Christmas is often envisioned as a time of joy, love, and cherished traditions. But it's also an opportunity for profound learning and personal growth.
In this post, I'll share how a seemingly ordinary Christmas day became a transformative milestone in my life, teaching me invaluable lessons about mindset, reality creation (aka Reality Transurfing), and the essence of life's journey.
From Loneliness to Empowerment
In 2007, I faced a challenging period – a bitter custody battle with my ex-partner. The holiday season, a time typically reserved for family gatherings, was overshadowed by the pain of separation from my children. I made the tough decision to spend Christmas alone, an experience that initially brought feelings of loneliness and rejection. Talk about abandonment issues! Boy were they triggered!
However, this solitude on Christmas day became a turning point. I channeled my emotions into starting a fitness blog, a step that marked the beginning of an incredible journey of self-improvement and personal discovery. The URL kathiesfitblog was purchased on Christmas Day 2007. To this day (December 25, 2023) I am billed by GoDaddy for that URL, triggering a feeling of satisfaction and joy!
This experience bestowed upon me the gift of self-awareness. It challenged me to let go of preconceived notions of how Christmas "should" be celebrated. (Should is a dirty word, you know!)
I learned the power of non-attachment and the liberation it brings, understanding that fulfillment and joy can come from within, regardless of external circumstances. Learn more about importance from Reality Transurfing and Non-Attachment from the book A New Earth articles here.
Over the years, I realized that the Christmases I spent by myself were among the most memorable and enriching. These unique celebrations highlighted the true spirit of Christmas – not in the external festivities but in the opportunity for inner transformation and self-discovery.

The Journey to a Christmas Reimagined
Fast forward to January 2013, and an exciting chapter unfolded in my life – I was on board as the Fitness and Wellness Director at OCuSOFT.
Picture this: it's December 2012, and I'm touring their facility, led by none other than Cynthia Barratt, the CEO of OCuSOFT. At the time, I was her trainer, and little did I know that this tour would be a sneak peek into a future filled with joy and connection.
OCuSOFT was not just any workplace – it was Christmas in overdrive! Cynthia's love for the festive season was infectious, and it didn't take long for me to catch the Christmas bug too. This newfound family at OCuSOFT filled the void left by the struggles of my custody battle, offering friendship and warmth that turned colleagues into a family.
Then, as fate would have it, December 2014 brought Eddie into my life. This December marks a decade – yes, ten incredible years – since our paths crossed. Eddie and I were 49 and 48, respectively, when we met, bringing a maturity and completeness to our relationship that I hadn't experienced before. With Eddie and his family, I found a new definition of family, one that extended beyond blood ties.
Christmas 2014 was the last holiday I spent solo. While I now cherish the warmth of these celebrations with loved ones, the solitude of those seven Christmases spent alone remains a poignant and valuable chapter of my life.
Those years were not just about loneliness; they were a period of immense personal growth and self-discovery, lessons that continue to resonate with me every festive season.
Conclusion: Embracing a New Perspective on Christmas
This story is an invitation to rethink the traditional narrative of Christmas. The holiday season can transcend its conventional role and become a catalyst for personal growth, introspection, and genuine understanding of the holiday spirit.
