Here are 8 tips that I have found to be the best way to have the best day!
#1. Set clear goals.
Before you even begin your day take a few minutes to set clear, SMART goals for you want to accomplish this day. A SMART goal is Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, and on a Time table - such as today. We must keep these SMART goals relevant for one single day.For example, if your big goal is too lose 15 pounds. A SMART goal would look like this for a single day.
Specific - exercise for 30 minutes today
Measureable - Did I exercise for 30 minutes today?
Attainable - 30 minutes is the minimum time of movement for every human so it is attainable.
Relevant - 30 minutes of activity will help you maintain a healthy weight
Time - It will happen today!
#2. Prioritize your tasks.
Once you have your goals in mind it is helpful to make a list of the tasks that you need to complete to achieve them. Then we want to prioritize the tasks based on importance and tackle the most important tasks first.
One of the most important things you can do for your health is to get 30 minutes of movement in per day. This has proven to be helpful for your health both mental and physical. I'd argue this is the most important thing you can do in your life!
The perfect morning routine, in my professional opinion, is one that includes exercise. Research shows us that early morning exercise improves the positive neurotransmitters in your brain like dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, and anandamide. These neurotransmitters will help you have a healthy mindset all day long. Who wouldn't want that?
In a nutshell, this is prioritizing your tasks and ensuring your stress levels will stay low for the entire day.
#3. Use the Pomodoro Technique.
This is a time management method that involves breaking your work into short focused intervals (usually 25 minutes) with short breaks in between. This can help you stay focused and avoid burnout.
This technique is helpful in ending procrastination. It wil supercharge your workday routine. You'll be able to dive into deep flow-based work and create your ideal, distraction-free work environment.
I invite you to research Pomodoro Technique Apps on your smartphone for the best help with this method. This can help you stay focused and avoid burnout. To me, that is one of the healthy habits that will help you all day long!
#4. Eliminate distractions.
Distractions can be a major productivity killer. And in today's world, we have distractions everywhere. I probably don't even need to tell you this.
It's kind of important to eliminate them as much as possible. Eliminating distractions might mean closing unnecessary tabs on your computer, turning off your phone, or working in a quiet space.
A simple habit of eliminating distractions may be just the thing that you need to help boost your routines. And the good news is eliminating distractions is very good for your mental health.
#5. Take breaks.
It is important to regular breaks to rest and recharge. This too can help you stay focused and avoid burnout. Why not use the Pomodoro Method break and take a walk in nature? This will have so many positive effects in your life.
For some inspiration let me share with you Charles Darwin's thinking path:
While working on his famous theory of evolution, Charles Darwin took a daily walk, to exercise his mind and body, to think, and to observe. Walking the same route each day from his house, through shady woods and back along a privet and hazel hedge-lined field, Darwin referred to this as his 'thinking path'.
Where will your thinking path be? It will prove to be one of those good habits to get into on a regular basis and benefit you for the rest of the day every single day!
#6. Reflect and adjust.
At the end of the day take a few minutes to reflect on your progress. What did you accomplish? What can you do differently tomorrow? Use this information to adjust your goals and plan for the next day (which we will discuss next).
I absolutely love The Pruning Shears of Revision Lecture from Neville Goddard for this very reason. Neville teaches us to review our day in a state akin to sleep. Review it completely once. Then review and re-write the parts of your day that were not ideal.
For example, let's say you had a meeting that day that had you in a state of reactivity with a fellow team member and you just did not start that meeting on the right foot.
Well, you can re-write this at the end of the day in a state akin to sleep. This method affects your subconscious mind tremendously.
When done often you will find the next day that others will react differently to you. It is extremely powerful and I invite you to try it yourself. It will be one of the best things you can do in your life.
I also like to make a gratitude list for the day and reflect on this as well. This is one of the good things about reflection and it helps build more positive vibes and is definitely one of the positive things to include in your day-to-day routines.
#7. Plan your next day.
It is always a good idea before you end your workday to spend a few minutes planning what you will do the next day. Make a to-do list and prioritize the tasks.
I'll say it again I love Notion for this. But you can use Asana or any similar app. Create a daily to-do list and check off what you did that day and add what needs to be done tomorrow.
The reason I mentioned doing this in #6 in Reflect and Adjust is that this is part of a solid daily routine. It is a powerful way to make sure your routines are stable and nothing can interfere. And Notion is a great app to keep a list of the things that help you stay on track and not procrastinate.
Procrastination is for those who do not have a solid daily routine and that is not you or you would not be reading this.
#8. Last but certainly not least is exercise.
It is recommended that we ALL get at least 30 minutes of movement in our days. This is one of the best things you can do to improve your mind, body, and spirit.
Honestly, and in my professional opinion, exercise is best as part of your morning ritual. Why? Because exercise boosts healthy levels of brain chemicals and will enhance your productivity and success in your day.
Now I get it, early mornings may not be your thing. But early morning exercise is a great way to start your day. I'd rather be asleep at 5:30 in the morning. But ever since I left that comfort zone of sleep far behind I find my day to be successful, I am in better shape than ever and it is worth the so-called “hard work” of waking up an hour earlier just to feel that energy boost that I need every single day.
As a Certified Fitness Trainer for 20+ years now I have several blog posts on fitness and how it improves your life! Be sure to check those out here and add exercise as part of your healthier routine. Now is a great time to start too! Yes, NOW!
